2011 Gil Nickel Humanitarian Award Recipient
David Nevins, an Emmy Award-winning producer and veteran network and studio programming executive, was named President of Entertainment at Showtime Networks Inc. in August 2010. In this capacity, Nevins oversees all aspects of original programming for the network. Since his arrival, he has successfully shepherded and launched the critically acclaimed series THE BIG C, SHAMELESS, EPISODES and the epic period drama THE BORGIAS.
Prior to joining SHOWTIME, Nevins served as President of Imagine Television beginning in July 2002, where he served as executive producer on all Imagine television shows. Under Nevins’s direction and leadership, Imagine produced several breakthrough, innovative titles, including the critic and fan favorite FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS (which has received honors from the American Film Institute (AFI) for Television Program of the Year and the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award). For his work on the Golden Globe®-nominated ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, Nevins won an Emmy® and PGA and Golden Globe Award nominations. Nevins is responsible for several popular shows currently on-air, including LIE TO ME and PARENTHOOD. He also oversaw production for the long-running Emmy® and Golden Globe® Award-winning series 24. Nevins also executive produced SHARK, MISS MATCH, SAVED and QUINTUPLETS.
Prior to joining Imagine, Nevins served as Executive Vice President, Programming, at Fox Broadcasting Company, where he oversaw all development and current programming for both comedy and drama series. His three-year tenure as head of development was highlighted by the development of 24, THE BERNIE MAC SHOW, BOSTON PUBLIC and ANDY RICHTER CONTROLS THE UNIVERSE.
Previously, Nevins served as Senior Vice President, Primetime Series at NBC, where he was responsible for the development and ongoing creative supervision of such renowned dramas and comedies as ER, THE WEST WING, WILL & GRACE, HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET and LAW & ORDER: SVU.
Before joining NBC, Nevins served as Vice President, Creative Affairs for Lewis Chesler Productions. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, Nevins worked under Senator George Mitchell as media relations associate for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in his hometown of Washington, D.C.
Nevins is a founding parent of the Larchmont Charter School, a socioeconomically diverse K-8 school based in Hollywood. He also serves on the board of the Hollywood Radio & Television Society (HRTS), and has been engaged in numerous grassroots organizations in and around Los Angeles, including the Summer Night Lights gang reduction program and the Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition, which distributes surplus food from businesses to individuals in need across the city.
He and his wife, Andrea, an acclaimed documentary producer, live in Los Angeles with their daughter, Clara, and two sons, Charlie and Jesse.
