The Clinical/Translational Research Programs are organized on the basis of interdepartmental and interdisciplinary strengths in disease areas, instead of being organized by academic departments. The programs consist of the following areas: Genitourinary Oncology, Hematopoietic Malignancies, Signal Transduction and Theraputics, Thoracic Oncology and Women's Cancers.
The Clinical/Translational Research Programs also maintain two Shared Resources: the Clinical Research Unit and the Biostatistics, Analytic Support and Epidemiology (BASE) Unit. BASE is shared by the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control Research.
One of the most significant developments has been the commitment of resources and administrative authority to the Internal Scientific Peer Review Committee (ISPRC), Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) and Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) within the Clinical Translational Research Programs of UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC). This organizational structure allows for enhanced interdisciplinary approaches to malignancies being evaluated and studied at JCCC and makes a dramatic impact on JCCC's activities and program areas.
