Scientific Interest(s):

Dr. Yibin Wang’s current research program revolves around the following three broad but integrated areas:

Signaling pathways and novel signaling molecules in stress responses.By applying state-of-the-art molecular, biochemical, proteomic, genomic and systems approaches, Wang aims to identify the molecular components of the signaling pathways that mediate stress responses involved in human diseases such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Some of the questions being pursued in the lab include signaling pathways in non-apoptotic cell death regulation, mitochondrial biology and function in oxidative injury and protection, mRNA alternative splicing regulation and metabolic function/regulation.
Characterizing physiological significance of stress signaling in the development of human diseases. Using sophisticated transgenic and embryonic stem cell techniques, Wang has developed a number of novel animal models in mice and zebra fish that have tissue-specific and temporally regulated perturbation of signaling pathways. Wang’s lab has also employed sophisticated tools to investigate the functional impact of stress signaling at cellular and organism levels.
Systems Approach to human diseases. Using state-of-the-art imaging techniques, large array of genetic models and systems biology analyses tools, Wang aims to discover and dissect novel genes/network interactions implicated in complex human diseases such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
