Scientific Interest(s):

Dr. David Stout's research interests are in developing the tools, procedures and techniques necessary to conduct molecular imaging research using optical, positron emission tomography (PET), computed tomography (CT) and autoradiography systems. These include chambers for keeping the subjects warm, anesthetized, in a reproducible position and for imaging in multiple systems. He also has interest and expertise in the design of preclinical imaging centers. Stout designed the new imaging center in the California Nanosystems Institute and for 13+ years oversaw the center that annually conducts more than 14,000 experiments with minimal disruption to the 42 faculty members using the center.

Stout teaches molecular imaging courses to train new investigators how to design, conduct and analyze data from these experiments. With a background in radiochemistry production of imaging probes, Ph.D. research involving quantitative measurements using PET and more than 25 years’ experience in the UCLA Molecular and Medical Pharmacology department, Stout enjoys helping investigators design their experiments, obtain the necessary regulatory approvals and learn how to get the best possible experimental results.
