The Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation hosted its 14th annual signature fundraiser, Taste for a Cure, Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Twentieth Century Fox Television Chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden received the Gil Nickel Humanitarian Award, presented to them by Kiefer Sutherland. Seth MacFarlane led the live auction and the evening included a special acoustic performance by Adam Levine and James Valentine of Maroon 5. Special guests also included Fox luminaries Dennis Haysbert and Scott Foley.
This year's luxurious wine and food tasting reception featured the theme
“The Great Wines of Oakville.” Selected by Barbara Fairchild, Award-winning chefs prepared a sumptuous tasting menu to match select wines from 30 wineries from the Oakville Winegrowers, a group of Vintners and Growers in Oakville, Napa Valley, who are dedicated to crafting the highest quality wine from the Oakville soil. Participating restaurants were XIV by Michael Mina, CUT, The Bazaar by José Andrés, Pizzeria Mozza, Osteria Mozza, The Border Grill and AK Restaurant + Bar.
The event raised $560,000 for highest priority cancer research at UCLA.
