Author Directs Book Proceeds to UCLA's Jonsson Cancer Center
Julie Clark, two-time breast cancer survivor, is the author of "You Are the Best Medicine," an honest, sensitive picture book that offers hope and comfort to moms with cancer and their children. In the spirit of giving back, Clark is directing her proceeds from book sales to breast cancer research at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center because of its pioneering role in developing life-saving cancer treatments.
The Jonsson Cancer Center is an international leader in the development and testing of targeted therapies for all cancers, including Herceptin for breast cancer. "Proceeds from the sale of Julie's new book will help our efforts to develop the next generation of cancer treatments that destroy only cancer cells not healthy ones," said Dennis J. Slamon, M.D., Ph.D., JCCC Director of Clinical/Translational Research. "Philanthropic contributions like this help us design and develop better therapies faster, and I am personally very grateful to Julie and her family for their generous support."
Julie Aigner Clark, a former English and art teacher, founded the Baby Einstein Company in 1996. Julie is the recipient of the Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Award as well as Working Mother's Entrepreneur of the Year Award in three categories: Most Philanthropic Company, Most Innovative Business, and Best Small Company. She lives in Colorado with her husband and two daughters.
