Scientific Interest(s):

Dr. Thomas Belin's research focuses on methods for handling incomplete or missing data in the health sciences, such as when data are incomplete due to non-response (when subjects fail to answer survey questions) or due to design decisions (an investigator intentionally obtained measurements on some but not all subjects on a given variable).

Belin has supervised six doctoral dissertations at UCLA on the development of strategies for the imputation of missing values in ways that are consistent with available evidence and that accurately summarize uncertainty about the missing values.

He currently is the principal investigator of a research grant from the National Institute of Mental Health titled "Imputation for Moderate Sized Mental Health Studies." He has collaborated with investigators at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center since 1991, particularly in the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control Research.
