Scientific Interest(s):

Dr. Dean Ho's team is currently developing nanodiamond-based platforms for targeted chemotherapeutic delivery and nanodiamond-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) agents. His team has demonstrated marked enhancements to small molecule efficacy and safety in multiple drug-resistant tumor models. This work was published as the cover article in Science Translational Medicine (March 2011). Ho's group and colleagues have also synthesized nanodiamond-gadolinium contrast agents that have resulted in a one order of magnitude increase in per-gadolinium relaxivity. This is among the highest ever reported values compared to clinical and nanoparticle agents. Nanodiamonds are also capable of mediating a one order of magnitude improvement to gene delivery efficacy with preserved safety, and triggered therapeutic protein release. In addition to nanodiamond-based drug delivery and imaging, Ho's team is also developing polymeric microfilm devices for localized release of multiple compounds.
