Dr. Chute's laboratory studies the mechanisms that regulate hematopoietic stem cell self-renewal and regeneration. They focus particularly on the hematopoietic stem cell niche or microenvironment to define the extrinsic signaling pathways through which the bone marrow microenvironment regulates hematopoietic stem cell self-renewal, differentiation, repair, and reconstitution. His research also directly focuses on defining specific signaling pathways that regulate stem cell fate but also has substantial implications for the development and application of stem cell therapies for malignant and non malignant diseases.
